Why join our Legal Team in Paris?
In France, SMBC Group has developed a great expertise in Banking, Trade Finance, Derivatives and Debt Capital Markets, with a greater focus in Project Finance and Acquisition Finance in the infrastructure, telecom, and renewable energy sectors. SMBC Group also actively supports its clients in their energy transition.
The Legal team is looking for a new intern to join the team for a 6-month period starting in January 2025.
The Legal Team, comprised of the Head of Legal France and another lawyer, assists all Front-Office teams on their transactions, from structuring and negotiations to execution and helps them navigate the European and French financial regulatory landscape.
You will get the opportunity to work for a very broad range of transactions and clients, including large corporates, recognized financial sponsors, and financial institutions across Europe and the Middle East.
You will also gain experience in negotiating structured financing documentation (ICA, CTA, SFA etc …), Master Agreements for derivatives transactions (ISDA/FBF), guarantee facilities as well as a deeper knowledge and understanding of financial regulation in Europe (MIFID, EMIR, MAR, CRD etc …).
In that context, you will be interacting with many internal stakeholders (Front-Office, Back-Office, Risks, Credit, Compliance etc…) as well as external (law firms, trade associations, clients etc…).
As an intern in the Planning Department-Legal team, you will assist on:
· Legal research,
· Drafting of consultations and memorandums,
· Contract review and negotiation,
· Participation in the production of files and any other ad hoc documentation,
· Work on transversal projects within SMBC.
Profile
· Gap year (“année de césure”) or end-of-studies student (Master 2 Internship, PPI).
· Prior internship experience, ideally in the banking industry or in the financial sector is welcome.
· 3rd Cycle Degree in Law required, associated with a Business School degree is a plus.
Skills valued
· Fluent in English and French (written and spoken)
· Knowledge of Contract Law, Banking and Financial Law, Company Law and International Law
· Proficiency in MS Office tools (Excel, PPT, Word)
